I’ve been in the “computer world” for oh…about 20 years I suppose. Much of that time was spent actually working on computers, (turning wrenches and screwdrivers), and then

I moved more into different fields where I used computers to do work for “me”. Somewhere along the line came the internet.

I love the internet. I can literally spend all day long reading about something that interests me, learning about something that I’ve always wanted to know more about, watching videos, looking at fabulous photographs, you name it. When you’re on the internet, you’ve got the world at your fingertips!

Now I have to admit, I know there are a lot of folks out there that would call me crazy for wanting to spend so much time on a computer…(my wife is one of them :) ) But you see…it’s what I enjoy doing. I enjoy surfing and knowing that if there is “anything” that I want to know more about, I can find it! While some folks enjoy watching TV, fishing, going to a sporting event,…I like working on my computer and searching the internet. Now thats not to say I can’t get away and do something else for a change. We often spend weekends out of town and I don’t normally have my computer with me…and thats fine. If I do have my laptop, it’s not connected to the net, but I may use it to jot down ideas for a blog post or a new website.

So at some point I started thinking, “why not try to channel this fondness for computers, into something profitable?” I mean really…I’m always preaching about how you should do something you love doing, so why not “walk the walk”, right?

You know I honestly didn’t know how people made money via the web. Yeah…I had seen some different scams and things that didn’t look too honest, but that stuffs not my style. I tried opening a pet supply store on eBay, and that was cool…but not really what I wanted. I tried having someone create a website for me and I tried selling pet supplies through that site. That was a little better, but I didn’t like the fact that I wasn’t really in control of my site. I didn’t know HTML or CSS, but I started picking up a little here and there. Then I found “affiliate marketing”! Specifically I found Jeremy Palmer!

I read the sales pitch and then I read his “about” page and realized…”this guy was just like me” just a year or two ago. Now he’s “killing it” on the web! The more I read, the more interested I became. I have a pretty strong “BS” alarm as well, but I never felt I was being handed BS. Jeremy’s guide is what really got me going and I haven’t looked back since. If you’re thinking that Jeremy is the kinda guy thats out to make a quick buck off someone who’s down and out, you’ve got him wrong. When you buy his book, you get “lifetime” free updates! You get access to the members forum that is “full” of great information and people that are really willing to help. Jeremy is on the forum posting most of the time and he’s just a super…down to earth guy that is more than willing to help.

His book is a must read if you are unfamiliar with affiliate marketing. If you’ve heard the term but aren’t sure how it all works, get the book! You won’t be sorry! So you say, “but Chris…I’m not here to learn about affiliate marketing…I’m here to learn how to blog?” Trust me…if you would like to learn how to make some money from your blog, you’ll want to know what affiliate marketing is about. Jeremy’s book is geared more towards affiliate marketing through traditional websites, rather than a blog, but the basic principles still apply.

I would highly recommend, High Performance Affiliate Marketing to anyone that is interested in making money online. You’ll learn a ton and you’ll find yourself referring back to the book time and time again.

    5. Jocko – Oh no! I’m on my second million! I quit on the first one… :)

    Seriously, I don’t claim to be making a ton of money, but it’s getting better. Of course I have several niche websites and a couple of other blogs going so across them all, it becomes easier to make money. Big piece of advice that I can share now that I look back…buy all the domains you want, but work on them one at a time and get that one profitable. Then you can move on to another. I would buy a domain, start doing something with it, then I’d think of another area I wanted to get into, buy another domain and start working on it, not having completed the first one. That just doesn’t work very well and you end up with a bunch of half-a$$’ed sites that aren’t making you any money.

    6. Chris, you hit the nail on the head about following through with ideas. I have fallen in the same trap of buying domain names, throwing them out there, and moving on…The key is to have a plan before you buy the domain and follow your own advice to the letter.

    7. Hey Jocko, affiliate program is one of the method of making money too. Why you bother to buy so much domain? Affiliate program is like you post your partner’s link here. If the visitor click the particular site and purchase something. In return you will get commission. This is what most of the site dot it

    12. I know where you were at while looking at Jeremy’s. There could be tons of untruths in the Internet nowadays and it’s usually that my BS alarm goes on first. I guess the most important thing is the Speed of Trust. Been looking at some eBays and auction sites…and now ur site – which makes me wanna learn more about affiliate marketing. Hopefully some of these days I get round to getting my hands into it as well. Cheers!

    It’s really great when you can find some people just like you online – the same thoughts, goals, etc. That’s why I love internet. What involves affiliate marketing is that there are a lot of hype involved. You know, every new person wants to hear – make money easily – in other words – start making thousands without doing any work… sleeping at home, etc. Because of this ‘dream’ idea a lot of people give up on affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing involves a great deal of work, you need to treat it as a real business, only then the person could succeed.

    20. Affiliate marketing is not dead or down because of PPC, in fact it is more profitable than ever and more people are experiencing success. Check out some free articles from about 2-4 years ago on my site and compare that data to some recent articles on affiliate successes. The fundamentals are same but the game is way bigger.

    29. The internet is full of information just waiting to be explored. And as an affiliate marketer I have to admit that some of it is junk. But one thing is for sure, if you have the right technique you can make money off of anything on the internet. And most people think that you need to spend money to make money on the web. That’s not true. All you need to do is invest time in research. A good sense of analysis is the best tool to earn an income online.
