Are You Passionate About Your Job?

As I was doing some late night scouring of the web, and through a series of links, I came across this blog post. As I read it, I couldn’t help but think just how true these words are.

Are you following your “true” passion in life or you going to your job each day because thats what pays the bills? Far too many of us go to work, thoroughly unhappy with what we do for a living. I think the main reason we do this is because we feel like we’re financially locked into our jobs, (myself included, sadly to say :( ) But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go after what it is that makes you happy! It may mean making sacrifices for a while, but if you’re truly committed to doing what you love, making those sacrifices will seem like a small price to pay for the happiness you’ll have some day.

I wish there was a book titled, “Exact Steps To Follow In Order To Get Out Of That Dead-End Job That Makes You Sick And How To Be Prosperous Doing What You Really Love Doing“, but unfortunately there isn’t. Everyone’s situation is different. But there is one basic rule that applies to everyone. One of the first things you have to do is to figure out what it is your passionate about? This may sound simple enough but it’s something that you may have never given much thought to before?

Regardless of whether you call it a hobby, recreation or something else, think of something you love doing. Really give this some thought! I enjoy fishing and playing golf, but I wouldn’t consider those activities to be something that I’m, “passionate” about. I just like to do those things occasionally. What you’re looking for is something that you could do all day and never consider it to be work…it’s just something fun to you! It could be reading, traveling, gardening, working on old vehicles, collecting antiques. Don’t limit yourself just because you think you couldn’t make money doing it. When you’re doing this exercise, imagine that money is not an issue.

Got your answer? Congratulations! You’ve taken the first step to a better, more fulfilling life! As I said before, there is no real blueprint on how to turn this into something profitable, but with a little creativity, you should be able to come up with some ideas. For instance, if you love to read, you’re probably not going to end up becoming a “professional reader”. But you may find that a “bookstore” would allow you to pursue what you enjoy? Look for similar professions that would complement your ambitions. Think about the internet. There are lots of ways to use the internet to make a nice income. Using my “reading” example…, maybe you could buy and sell books on eBay? Create and monetize a blog where you review and talk about books you’ve read? Opportunities for profiting from the internet are definitely rising.

I’m sure I’ll be discussing this more in future posts. If you ever need help deciding what it is “you” are passionate about or how you could actually make money from that activity, feel free to contact me and I’ll be glad to try and help.

One bit of parting advice….and this is very important. Don’t wait until “someday” to go after what you love doing. “Someday” never seems to come, does it? If you allow it, there will always be a reason to stay in that crappy job, and only “dream” of what you really want to do. Make up your mind to make a change and start today! You’ll be happy you did!
