Steve Pavlina’s Personal Development Blog

Once upon a time, I read Steve Pavlina’s blog daily. If you’re not familiar with his blog, you should definitely give it a whirl sometime. I consider Steve’s blog a “tell it like it is, self help” kinda blog? Sometimes people don’t want to hear what it is that will truly make them change their lives. I’m not sure why…perhaps it’s painful to hear the truth. Maybe those people would do better to avoid Steve’s blog?

Anyway…I haven’t read his blog in probably 2 months. As I mentioned, I used to read it daily, (or at least as often as he updated it), and always enjoyed what he had to say. Then things happened…I could blame it on being busy or whatever…but I got away from visiting his site. So out of the blue, I decide to drop in today and see what he’s been writing about…and this post is at the top of his blog. I challenge you to “really” read what Steve is writing here and ponder it for a while. Are you really doing what you love to do? Or are you doing what you “have” to do to get a paycheck? I’ll be the first to admit that I’m doing what I “have” to do to get a paycheck. This all ties back in to my “100 Days To Health, Wealth & Happiness”. Do what you enjoy doing and you’ll be more successful than you can imagine! If the only reason you work is for money, then chances are you’ll wake up in the morning, dreading work, being pissed off while you’re there, and going home after work with a bad attitude. And then the stress of it all gives you a heart attack! Some great way to live your life, huh? Thats not how it’s supposed to be!

Give your future some thought today and dream a little. Imagine if money were not a concern and you just did what you enjoyed doing. What would you do? Give it some thought and drop a comment here if you’d like.

Have a good day!

  6. I totally agree. If you don’t enjoy work it will automatically be crappy. But how many people in the world actually like their job? I doubt many do. Whether you work at Macdonalds or are a loan officer or even a janitor, I think people just have to be satisfied at the end of the day with what they have personally accomplished otherwise they will never be happy.

  18. Loving what you do for a living should be everyone’s goal, or at least to make enough money where you don’t have to work! People work from necessity 99% of the time and there’s that thing called money that everyone needs, rebelboy. So unless you have a trust fund…

  24. That website–particularly the post where he talks about how much money he makes blogging–really inspired me to take a second look at making money online vs. having a real job. Personally, for me, I like to do a little of both, but if I was making the kind of cash he is, then I’d reconsider.

  28. I wish it was that easy. You don’t like what you do it, so just stop doing it. In an ideal world with ideal jobs, that could be doable. But when your first kid is born and you realize you can’t do whatever you please, whenever you please it, you start doing the right thing. Not what you like, what you want but what you need to do. This is the cold truth.

  34. Yes, I agree, both about the Steve’s blog, and about doing what we really enjoy doing. However, if money is the only reason someone does something, isn’t that activity also worth loving and enjoying?

  38. That’s a great article and it has really echoed how I have felt for a long time. I got a degree in accounting because I didn’t know what I wanted and I knew it was a “safe” path. To be quite honest, I dont like anything about it but I go back for a paycheck.

Thank you for pointing out the article. I had heard Steve’s name mentioned in other blogs but never checked him out.
