Perseids Meteor Shower This Weekend

According to what I’ve been reading, this weekend is likely to be one of the best weekends for stargazing that we’ve had in quite some time! For me, that’s pretty exciting because I love nothing more than kicking back in a lawn chair or on top of the boat, kicking back and counting “shooting stars”!

So what makes this weekend so special? Well…it’s time for the Perseids meteor shower which peaks on August 12th, AND, we’ll have a new moon this year. The lack of moonlight should make for some beautiful, natural light shows.

The peak of the meteor shower will be Sunday night, but in the event that it’s cloudy in your area, a couple of evenings before and after should be good viewing as well. The best time to see the shower will be between 11:00pm Sunday night until dawn the next morning.

So round up your lawn chairs & bug spray and let the boss know you’ll be in a little late on Monday morning! ;)

i saw it! i was on a week-long vacation on an island, where we use solar power for lights and no fans. The meteor shower was clearly visible in that pitch black conditions. It was beautiful! Best meteor shower I’ve ever seen.
