Smoking Cessation - Is It Time For You To Quit?

Posted on June 17, 2008

And I just thought gas prices were high?!?! I was reading some comments on a blog the other day where people were talking about $9.00 packs of cigarettes in New York??? Is that true or am I way off base?

Then another guy from Canada commented that they paid something like $11 a pack in Canada?!?!

If that is in fact true, I honestly don’t know how people could afford that? I can’t say I even know for sure what a pack of cigarettes in Arkansas cost, but I know it’s not anywhere near those prices!

I have to admit I’m fortunate enough to have quit smoking back in 2003. Matter of fact, I’m coming up on my 5yr, smoke free anniversary. How did I do it? My smoking cessation program was more “non-conventional” I suppose. I used hypnosis to quit smoking.

As long as I can remember, I’ve been intrigued with hypnosis. Here was a relatively simple tool, that everyone has access to, and that has been proven to be extremely powerful in helping people with a wide variety of issues, including but definitely not limited to:

And the list goes on.

The fact remains though…many people are frightened by hypnosis. I don’t know why? I suppose it’s the way that Hollywood has portrayed hypnosis in the past. As though it’s some kind of evil, diabolical tool that will allow someone to control your mind and rule the world!

Hypnosis “is” a powerful tool, but it is certainly not anything to be scared of. You know what scares me? Dying of cancer or heart disease from smoking and leaving my loved ones behind…thats what scares me. I made the decision almost 5 years ago, that I wasn’t going to let cigarettes take my life away.

People practice self hypnosis every day…whether it’s to become smoke free and healthy or to improve their golf game. The end result is that it’s proven and it works.

Here is a special deal from a company that is a leader in self hypnosis audio programs. The great thing about a CD audio program is that you use it in the privacy of your own home. This program is normally $149, but for a limited time the price is $99! And you can even do three payments of $33 if you want so it’s affordable to everyone! And on top of that, the company offers a 1 year, “no questions asked” money back guarantee. I don’t know why you wouldn’t try it with those terms? Even if you’re not a smoker, you should check out their site as they offer a lot of free self hypnosis stuff as well as a lot of great information.

Give them a try and please let me know how it works out. And even if you don’t try hypnosis…I truly encourage to try some kind of smoking cessation program. Do it for the loved ones in your life! Don’t wait until tomorrow…start today!

Hi, its true that, the price for the cigarettes is getting higher and higher day by day..
I think is good at one way. Now, slowly reduce the smoking…
    Which is very good news…
    what u say?

  2. Social Anxiety Disorder on June 17th, 2008 2:03 pm

Thanks for saying this Chris. Cigarette prices are ridiculous just like gas prices. I quit back in 2003 (although I sneak one every once in a while–don’t tell my wife). Pretty soon we’ll be the healthiest country in the world since we’ll have to ride bikes and quit smoking just to keep food one the table

  3. Grilling Plank on June 17th, 2008 4:45 pm

Stopping smoking for some people is no easy task. I would think that putting huge tax’s on them would stop some people, but it doesnt.

  4. Chris | You Are Living on June 17th, 2008 5:11 pm

My friend is a pretty hardcore smoker, but he won’t start any of these kind of programs. What would be your advice for convincing him its what he needs?

  5. Sport Psychology by Jack on June 18th, 2008 1:46 am

It’s true, if you’re Canadian, poor, and a chain smoker, you are absolutely screwed by the cigarette tax. It’s best to stop. But when has it not been?

Stop smoking is too hard for me :-(

  7. Land Projects UK on June 18th, 2008 9:28 pm

I must agree that quitting from smoking is a hard thing to do. It takes time to finally withdraw from it. I remember my father was a chain smoker before, but to some health conditions he was advised to quit. I noticed that he suffered a lot, like he eats candy in the middle of the night. Well, hopefully people who wants to quit smoking could find a better way to stop. ;)

Congrats on your anniversary coming up. I’m not a smoker, but can tell you that cigarettes are expensive here in Canada. AND…just instituted the other day, anyone caught smoking in a car where there are kids will get a fine! The province of Ontario has cracked down on smoking in the past 10 years. No smoking in any public buildings, restaurants etc. Really, the only place to smoke here is at home, in a car if you’re alone, or outside a building if you’re far enough away from it!

I guess you could always refrain from smoking in the first place but i praise people that quit. I can’t imagine how hard that would be.

  10. Chris on June 19th, 2008 12:19 pm

Lasik Eye Surgery - Agreed…I’ve been there and it’s not easy. I REALLY enjoy it when I talk to someone who is quitting. It’s fun to pump them up and let them know that you are with them in their quest to quit. I have a lot of respect for anyone that quit smoking…thats for sure!

  11. Chris on June 19th, 2008 12:44 pm

You Are Living - Sorry I’m late getting you a response. As for convincing someone to try a program such as this…I’d say, what do they have to lose? This is a good, 7 cd, comprehensive program that can be paid for in 3 payments of $33. Add to that the fact that they could use it for a year and return it for a full refund if they’re not happy with the results.

I’ll also say this though…no one can be “made to quit”. Hypnosis and most any program out there, work best when a person has a true desire to quit. If someone is forced to spend money and listen to a hypnosis cd, or visit a hypnotherapist or even forced to go to some type of “free” program, chances are they won’t be very successful. Thats because deep down, they may feel resentful about being forced into something they don’t really want to do. I like to work on getting people to realize the benefits of not smoking and perhaps work on the emotional side, (ie. you’re not only hurting yourself, but all those around you, etc).
Thank you for your comment and thanks to everyone that comments! Sorry I don’t reply to more of them, :(

  12. Magnetic Slipper - Joseph on June 19th, 2008 4:50 pm

Smoking has become expensive, and unfortunately smokers must pay more for an addiction most of them can’t control.

There are many methods have can help a person quit, but I’d like to mention magnetic therapy as a possible solution. For only a couple thousand dollars, you can outfit your home, furniture and clothing with power rare Earth magnets.

No one is 100% sure what sticking magnets all over your body might do. It might only set you in a better mood, or do nothing at all. Or, perhaps, it will elevate your internal energy, charging the chakra closest to the opening of your anus and shoot a stream of heavenly white light that connects you to the universe and everything in it.

Having said all this, I still feel that smoking in moderation (no more than 5 cigarettes a day) can have some benefits in reducing stress and focusing on work.

I have been reading about gas prices but never thought someone will come up with thoughts of rates of cigrates rising

but atleast this raise in price will be good enough…less smokers all the way :)

    Chris,
This was a good article. I never even considered using hypnosis to overcome weight loss. As for smoking, if I did, it would definitely be cheaper to pay for the hypnosis than several pack of cigarettes.

  21. UptakeInOH on June 25th, 2008 10:53 pm

I joked to my son the other day that I’m going to have to get a third job soon to pay for gas. If I still smoked, that would make a fourth job I’d need! I’m lucky that I was able to quit cold turkey when I did–not everyone finds smoking as easy to stop. Hypnosis is definitely worth trying, it worked for my aunt.

  22. student loan fusser on June 25th, 2008 11:44 pm

Cheap or exorbitantly priced, cigarettes must be discarded away from everyone’s pockets and table drawers. It’s simply bad deal, yet still wanted to be played. Don’t gamble your life just because the simple pleasure given by cigarettes.

Yea, smoking is a bad and really expensive habit. My parents smoke and I can’t believe how much they spend. I wish they would try hypnosis. People need to view hypnosis more as meditation than as a wicked, evil thing. You can’t be hypnotized against your will! I’ll show my parents this post.

Yup you know what the answer is, stop smoking. As you can tell i don’t smoke, and am not really addited to anything. I think the price of Cigarettes should be much more than that to stop people from being able to afford them. It was only since the ‘olden days’ that cigarrettes have become more afordable. (It was always the rich that could only afford tobacco) So why the hell did they make it cheaper, as now that everyone can afford it, everyone is pretty much addicted to it! I work for Pitstop Marquees Birmingham, and theres only me that doesn’t smoke! which is shocking! How much money could you save if say you smoked 10 cigarettes a day? This much - £730!! That to you guys is like a Playstation 3 and a big massive TV! That to us girls is the best shopping trip.

If that is in fact true, I honestly don’t know how people could afford that? I can’t say I even know for sure what a pack of cigarettes in Arkansas cost, but I know it’s not anywhere near those prices!I have to admit I’m fortunate enough to have quit smoking back in 2003. Matter of fact, I’m coming up on my 5yr, smoke free anniversary. How did I do it? My smoking cessation program was more “non-conventional”

It isn’t easy giving up smoking, but you can do it. Knowing your options, things you’re up against, and where to ask help are your best chance in quitting successfully. Though withdrawal symptoms may occur only to few, it is still necessary for you to manage it well and learn to fight back. The most common symptoms of withdrawal is depression. And without proper support from friends and families, or motivation, this will lead you from smoking again. Though there are many ways of preventing yourself from smoking with cessation, Exercise is the one that you can really rely on. Exercise is recommended as an aid to smoking cessation by doctors and specialist as a self-help material. Taking regular exercise may help you quit smoke by moderating nicotine withdrawal, and cravings. You are not only the one who is dying every time you puff your cigarette.

It took a while, but I eventually came to grips with the fact that smoking was really bad for my health. And after many years I was finally able to beat the habit. It was very difficult at first, but the methamphetamines really helped me ignore all the irritating nicotine cravings I was suffering.
